Self-love and selflessness. Seems like they are completely different topics, right? But as someone who has been on the journey of loving myself, I can definitely tell you that they aren’t.
A few weeks ago, I wrote a post called ” The debut of self-love “, where I wrote about the beginning of the journey of loving yourself. So, if you haven’t read the post, I recommend that you read that post first – Click here to read it.
As someone who has been struggling with the concept of self love, the first thing I recognize as a mistake I made was thinking that I was the only one with all the problems. It may seem contradictory to the whole concept of self-love, where you put yourself first. But here’s the thing, when you start to love yourself, you have to face a lot of inner demons, and you can become so involved with your demons that you tend to forget that your loved ones also fight battles with themselves. I had to learn it the hard way.
Altruism, if you ask me need not be the concept of dedicating your entire being to help someone else nor put yourself down. It can be simple acts of being more aware of the struggles your loved ones go through or taking care of people who you care about.
By being altruistic, you set free a part of yourself that can become self-centered. Not that being self-centered is a bad thing. Just that when there is a beautiful “We”, why should it be just an “I”? All this advice comes from struggles I had to go through. The concept of selflessness cannot exist without the concept of self is something we ought to understand.
“By becoming the answer to someone’s prayer, we often find the answers to our own.”
Dieter F. Uchtdorf
This is a short post for today. I just wanted people who are on the journey of self-love to know that altruism is not only a part of self love, but it also helps finding yourself. Take this example, sometimes you try to make your friend happy, but when you see the smile on their face, you realize you are happy because of them too, that’s kind of how the link between self-lessness and self-love works.
So, If you stayed till the end, I hope you leave a comment, it will make my day, asters.
